The Midland Metro Alliance virtual training academy has been recognised for excellence in the Transforming Lives through Partnerships category at the first Education Awards held in the West Midlands.
The Education Awards celebrates and rewards the most outstanding contributors to the education industry. The Transforming Lives through Partnership category specifically recognises educational programmes which have changed the lives of young people through effective partnership working.
The MMA is nominated in response to the work it has been undertaking in helping get careers of local people on the right track. It is working in partnership with local colleges, the Department for Work and Pensions, councils and other funding bodies, in supporting the design and delivery of bespoke six-week Sector Based Work Academies in Light Rail.
The training programmes offer unemployed candidates across the region aged 18 and over an opportunity to achieve accredited qualifications, develop personal skills and gain practical work experience. The aim is to encourage candidates to consider careers in construction, engineering and light rail. The pre-recruitment course also gives candidates a guaranteed interview for a variety of roles available at the MMA.
Alejandro Moreno, Midland Metro Alliance Director, said: “The benefit that our sector based work academies are having on local people is reward enough for the work that we’re carrying out in the West Midlands, however, we are delighted that the Midland Metro Alliance has been recognised for its partnership working in this more formal way.”
The Education Awards will be taking place on Friday 7 July in Edgbaston, Birmingham. For more information, you can visit Education Awards Birmingham 2017.
