Midland Metro Alliance scoops two industry awards at the Global Light Rail Awards 2017

The Midland Metro Alliance’s Development Team has won a prestigious accolade for its work planning future tram routes in the region at an awards ceremony held last night.
 
The award, presented at the Global Light Rail Awards in London on Wednesday 4 October, celebrates and rewards the most outstanding contributors to the Light Rail industry. The Team of the Year category honours teams who have made an exceptional commitment to furthering the light rail industry.
 
The Midland Metro Alliance Development Team were recognised for the work that they do navigating the legislative minefield in bringing tram extensions from the planning phases, securing funding and finally to construction.
 
The prize was not the only silverware that the Midland Metro Alliance picked up on the evening, with the team’s Geographical Information System, which is used to show complex societal, environmental and construction data in a 3D setting, also being highly commended by the judges in the Technical Innovation (Infrastructure) category.
 
Alejandro Moreno, Midland Metro Alliance Director, said: “We’re delighted that the Midland Metro Alliance, which was only formed in July 2016, has been honoured at the Global Light Rail Awards. The win is aligned with our belief in the importance of collaboration and also our aim to leave a lasting legacy that the West Midlands can be truly proud of. I am especially proud of the Development and Design teams which were personally selected by our peers in the judging.”
 
The Midland Metro Alliance was also shortlisted in the Vision of the Year category for its work in getting local careers on the right track and for Significant Safety Initiative for its health and safety smartphone app, CARL.
 
It was also a night of celebration for the region’s tram network all round too, as Midland Metro was celebrated as the most improved tram system in the UK and National Express Midland Metro employee Tom Rowe highly commended in the Employee of the Year category for his work as Midland Metro’s CCTV and Claims Co-Ordinator.
