Work which began last month to demolish an aging structure as in Sandwell as part of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension was completed ahead of schedule today allowing the road to reopen to two-way traffic.
The Midland Metro Alliance, working on behalf of Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), have been carrying out work on the structure in Coneygree Road throughout October and November to prepare the area for the much-anticipated Metro route. Following the demolition, traffic and pedestrian restrictions that were put in place to allow the team to work safely were lifted on Coneygree Road and Victoria Road on Friday 6 November. Later in the construction programme, a new structure will be erected in the street.
Late last month it appeared that the work was moving as pace as the team working in Coneygree Road moved from preliminary devegetation works to full demolition more than ten days ahead of schedule.
The alliance’s dedicated Stakeholder Liaison Officer has been keeping locals updated on progress and those living close to the activity have had great things to say about the team on site.
Heather, who lives in Coneygree Road, said: “I live next to the railway bridge and the team have been friendly, helpful and have been are very respectful of my property. The work to take the bridge down has been very efficient and everyone has worked hard to ensure we still have access to our property, with deliveries and bin collections facilitated by them. All in all, I’m very happy.”
Whilst work has wrapped-up in Coneygree Road and Victoria Road, work has moved to Lower Church Lane in Tipton and this street is currently closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic since Monday 26 October. This area is expected to re-open shortly with activity moving to Horseley Road, also in Tipton, also requiring a two-week road closure, too.
