National Apprenticeship Week 2022 – Day Five: A “purpose-built” Trailblazer Apprenticeship in Light Rail Construction

The Midland Metro Alliance is proud to facilitate apprenticeships which span a diverse range of fields, from quantity surveying to communications, marketing, procurement and business administration. In 2018, the organisation also led an industry group which helped to create the UK’s first apprenticeship in the UK for light rail construction. In the autumn of 2021, the alliance, which is designing and building a number of Metro extensions on behalf of Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), welcomed ten new apprentices who work across its projects in office and on-site roles. During National Apprenticeship Week 2022, the Midland Metro Alliance is putting a spotlight on our current and past apprentices. Not only are we bringing change to the cities and towns in which we are working, but we are also changing the lives of young people across the region, too. By developing our own award-winning light rail construction apprenticeship, we offer local people of all ages and backgrounds a real chance to get ahead. This National Apprenticeship Week, Local TV: Birmingham caught up with the latest cohort of apprentices who shared their own experiences of learning whilst earning as they help deliver the biggest light rail extension under construction anywhere in the UK.
