Tram test on Corporation Street’s new track

Trams returned to Corporation Street today as testing of the new track got underway ahead of trams returning to full service.

Testing and commissioning is an important phase of the construction of a tram track and involves running trams out of passenger service along the newly installed track.

Works got underway along Corporation Street towards the end of July as part of a  commitment by Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) to invest in game-changing new lines along with ensuring that the existing route also sees similar investment.

Stephen Christopher, Construction Director at Midland Metro Alliance, said: “It was fantastic to see the first tram travel along the newly laid track which the team have worked incredibly hard to complete over the past three months. We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding during these essential upgrade and maintenance works.”
